

My Wi-Fi (Freebox) is set to 5Ghz with a bandwidth of 80Mhz, ("AC" Wi-Fi). I was a bit fooled, because I need my PC to kick ass on upload too. Nevertheless it does the job, much more appreciable speed now. Another negative point, 250mbit/s is not 1000mbit/s either. A small negative point, the length of the wire for the mobile antenna could be extended by 50cm easily, it's a bit tight to put it where you want. I finally found the solution: the antennas connected to the card were probably not picking up the wifi, because on the mobile antenna provided, the connection is close to 250mbit/s and stable now.

However, the speed with the wifi card did not exceed 50mbit/s with interruptions. I went from a real ADSL speed of 15Mbit/s to a theoretical fibre speed of 1000Mbit/s. I've been using it for a while now, but I'm not sure I'll ever be able to use it again. I've been using this card for a while now and it's a great product. I almost gave it a bad mark, but in the end it didn't. I therefore opted for this card with very good reviews. But, maybe next time if I'm looking for a better fit with higher speed 802.11 specs, I might save my pennies and get something like the Alfa AWUS036ACH mentioned in the article.Having changed my ADSL box for a fibre offer, the installation does not allow me to have a wire connection at the moment. The PAU09 was not cheap, but not overly pricey also. So maybe a lesson learned about Linux, stuff exists, you just have to find it first - then buy it. I bought the Panda PAU09 because the driver for the chip in this wifi adapter is included in the kernel no downloads, no compile from source, no dragging a cable from your Linux box to the router that may be on the other side of the house. Here's a decent explanation of what's going on and a few recommendations. In almost every case, a wifi card supported in Linux will be supported in Windows, also. The best thing to do is research first, then buy. So a "better" wifi card doesn't guarantee Linux compatibility. Linux wifi drivers are getting better and more importantly there are drivers for more wifi chips coming along all the time.
